Cool Baby in Stroller
Stroll -n- Cool Did You Know
Children cannot regulate their body temperature as well as adults for the following reasons:
  • As babies are born with the skin they will eventually grow into as adults, the volume of skin covering a baby is greater. This volume of skin can make it more difficult for a baby’s body to maintain fluids.
  • Children generate more heat because they have a higher metabolic rate.
  • Sweating capacity is considerably lower in children than in adults, which reduces the ability of children to dissipate body heat by evaporation.
  • In HOT weather, it can be very easy for children to suffer from dehydration, heat exhaustion, and possibly even heat stroke.
  • Heat also causes children to become irritable and uncomfortable.

Strollers and Heat Generation:

When children are placed in their strollers on HOT Summer days, the following occurs:

After a short period of time, the child will start perspiring.

The child’s perspiration is due to a couple of factors:

  • The HOT outdoor temperature and humidity, as well as a lack of air circulation between the child and their stroller.
  • The child’s warm body heat in contact with the stroller seat will cause them to sweat significantly!
  • The end result is an irritable and uncomfortable child that very possibly could become dehydrated. Heat exhaustion may follow if they are exposed to the heat for a long enough period of time and they do not consume enough of the proper fluids.

The end result is an irritable and uncomfortable child...
